02/07/12 2012 Medal Design Released
We are extremely pleased to release our 2012 half marathon finisher's medals. In our opinion, these are the best yet! As with tradition, we will one again include the original seal of the Roanoke Navigation Company, The front this year will be a full color version of our race logo. We hope you will wear your medal with pride after the race!
01/16/11 Chip Timing
Once again the Roanoke Canal Half Marathon & 8k will use a state of the art chip timing system for our race. This will ensure all runners are accurately timed regardless of when they cross the start line. New this year will be the addition of a big screen LCD TV that will stream live race results at the event. No longer will you need to stand around and wait on printed results!

01/11/11 WAY ahead of Pace!
Last year's inaugural race sold out early. This year we are well ahead of that pace. We had 144 registered runners on January 11 last year. On that same date this year we have 190 runners. That puts us 32% ahead of pace. Because of the nature of the race course and parking limitations we cap our race at 250 half marathoners and 150 8k runners. If you plan to run in 2011, we strongly suggest you sign up soon.

You should have received an email with final runner instructions this afternoon. Please take time to read through all of the included information. With any race, the better informed the runners are, the better the chances for a good time. All trail races add a challenge of "sharing the trail" with your fellow runner. Please keep this in mind as you race. With chip timing, and a wave start we should not have any issues, but we rely on runners to make sure it is a fast, fun, and friendly environment for everyone involved. See you on Saturday!

Here is a preview of what the "sling packs" will look like. Remember that all 8k and Half Marathon runners will receive one of these at packet pickup in addition to their race shirt. We wanted to give you something a little nicer than a plastic throw-away bag. These are great options for using at the gym, or at your next race.
02/25/10 Custom Race Numbers Ordered
For our inaugural event we thought it would be nice to give Half Marathon runners a customized race bib. This helps our volunteers cheer you on by name, and gives you something you may want to save after the race. When we submitted the order we decided to offer the customized bibs to both the 8k and the Half Marathon, so everyone will get them!

As a 501(c)(3)The Roanoke Canal Commission, Inc. was chartered in 1984 to “promote, develop and maintain the natural beauty and historic area that is part of the old Roanoke Navigation Canal in Halifax County, North Carolina.” The Commission has remained intact over the years and oversees the management of the Canal Trail and development of the Roanoke Canal Museum.
